Lighter Notes
Well, y’all, thanks so much for the support from last night’s post. Really and truly, it helped more than you know. And, since the last two posts have been rather downers (okay, truly downers), to prove I’m not always a negative Nellie, this post will be more fun.
Cute things from the kids lately:
- Caleb, as Bryan told him that a taco place we liked (well, Bryan and I liked, the boys tolerated) had closed temporarily, said, “Did they ever get their licorice license?” He remembered the first couple times we went there before they had their liquor license and Daddy (okay, Daddy and I) got free drinks.
- Jacob, outside today as goofy as I’ve ever seen him, playing in the snow. Huge, wet snowflakes coming down and Jacob was dancing around on the patio, holding a paper cup on his head to catch the snow. He was the definition of sheer joy. Bryan got some great video on his phone, but it’s not uploaded anywhere I can link to it yet.
Happy thing from me today:
I completed my first 8 mile run today. I posted back on November 14 that I was contemplating training for the Dallas Rock-n-Roll half marathon in March. I’m officially registered for that race (and for the Cowtown 10k a month earlier), and have been training for it. It SNOWED today – real snow! And was COLD (yes, for Texas, it was COLD) – two things that would normally have put me off running for the day. But I got out there, all bundled up, and you know what? It felt GOOD to be out there. It was gray and overcast, almost nobody was out, so it was quiet and peaceful (yes, I had my music going, but I keep it way low, so I can still hear everything around me) and it just was a great run. The kind of great run that makes the bad runs worth it. Even with a goofy dog attempting to take off my leg (okay, that’s a big dramatic, but he did try to bite me – only got my pants leg – see facebook for a picture) less than half a mile in, I kept at it. I. AM. AWESOME. 🙂
So, there – a happy post. Also, in case you missed it, my 2010 Holidays post has some great pictures of the boys!
Jules –
Kudos for registering to run the Rock-n-Roll! Mandy is planning on doing that one. Maybe one day I will run one too.
Nah.
Shane
Cool, Shane! How long does Mandy think she’ll take? I’m hoping to run 10:30/mile so if she’ll be around the same time, we should try to meet up and run together (unless she’s already got a running buddy, which is ok, too)!
