Christmas 2012 Recap

It’s March, and we all know what that means…it’s almost Christmas! Since retailers will have Christmas gear out in another month, I thought I’d get us all in the spirit by finally recapping our Christmas. (Plus, a Christmas recap was specifically requested in a response to So Many Things, so even though it’s late, I still wanted to oblige that request.)

We had lots of brotherly love time.

Santa hats were quite popular this year.

Santa came and brought lots of gifts.

Clearly we’re all very stylish on Christmas morning.

We all opened lots of presents.

We had a plethora of presents.

And possibly the best part of all (depending on who you asked)…it snowed! Much fun was had in the snow – for a couple days!

All the boys had a blast in the snow. Especially the biggest boy.

We really had a wonderful time at the holidays this year, surrounded by the love of lots of family, which I hope happens for many, many more years to come.

My Jokester

Published by under Caleb Lee,Daneman Boys

Caleb came home with some new jokes recently. I think they’re pretty funny. (I really wanted to get him on video, but he was feeling a little camera-shy. Sorry, you just get text today.)

  • Q: What do boxers (the athletes, not the dogs) like to drink?
    A: PUNCH!
  • Q: What did the lion say after eating the clown?
    A: That tasted funny!
  • Q: What do cows like to put on their hotdogs?
    A:  Mooo-stard!

They got me giggling, anyway. Hopefully they brightened up your morning, too.

Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!

Published by under Family Time,YAY things

Spring break was this week and while I didn’t have the week off, we still managed some spring break fun. Grandma came up to visit for the first weekend of the break, and we had a grand time. Saturday night we went to Mike and Susan’s house in Dallas to celebrate Grandpa Daneman’s 88th birthday. It was so wonderful for everyone to get together and celebrate this remarkable man!

clockwise from top left: Sam chocolate-face, Grandpa D and all the great-grands, Grandpa D and all the grands and great-grands, and Sam sad-chocolate-face.

On Sunday, Mom and I did some shopping (sorry, no pictures) and played lots and lots of Cars with Sam. On Monday, Grandma treated us to a trip to the Fort Worth Zoo. It was Sam’s first trip to the zoo, and it was a grand success! He had a blast. We brought the stroller, and he rode in it from the car, through the gates and to the monkey house. Then it was all over. He wanted to walk everywhere. And he did. He walked all over the zoo. And he has asked at least a dozen times when we can go back. I see a zoo pass in our future, I believe. Grandma treated us to lunch and a train ride, and a new orange tiger umbrella too! Thanks, Grandma!

We had so much fun at the zoo!

It was a great spring break. Can’t wait for the first weekend in April when Grandpa comes to visit to take us fishing!

Chargers Ready to Start Spring Season

It’s baseball season, y’all! The Chargers started their spring season with a tournament this weekend. They were 1-1 in pool play. Really, they should’ve been 2-0, but, well, we had to give the other team a break. (That and, I’m no expert, but when a pitch hits in the dirt, isn’t that a ball instead of a strike? Thanks, stinky Grampire.) They went on to play two games in bracket play, ultimately losing to the team that ended up winning it all in their age bracket.

Bear played mostly 2nd base and shortstop, with a stint or two in the outfield and even some time at pitcher! He was rocking it at pitcher, slinging them right across the plate in perfect strike zone…unfortunately, the other team’s bats were really alive, too, so they got several hits off of him.

We had pretty weather (even if it was COLD-COLD-COLD for the first game Saturday morning), and I think everyone had fun. Here’s to the start of a great spring season! As Sam would say, “GO CHARGERS!”

Random snapshots from the Chargers’ first spring tournament of 2013.

Keller Bulldogs Basketball Playoffs

Published by under Caleb Lee,Daneman Boys,YAY things

Well, I promised a game post about the Bulldogs’ – Caleb’s team for those of you new to the blog – basketball playoffs. I had hoped to still be posting about Bulldog basketball through the weekend, but alas, it is not to be. The Bulldogs went into the playoffs as the #3 seed, and after a valiant effort, were, sadly, defeated Thursday night by the Flyers.

The boys played hard and kept the score within two points until right at the end. The refs did not help, but rather than let this post descend into a rant about terrible refs (and some questionable fans) in a 9U basketball game, I’d rather focus on the hustle and heart the boys played with.

The teams were well-matched and it was a fight from the beginning. These 9 year olds were vicious! Steals, jump balls, fouls, incredible shots by both teams. Sadly, it just wasn’t our day to win.

And with Bear’s basketball season is officially over, I’m perfectly content to listen to the happy sounds of big brother Bear teaching Sam some basketball basics.

TMS Wind Ensemble Pre-UIL Concert

I might have mentioned this before, but I am SO proud of Jacob’s musical ability. He’s doing so well on trombone in 7th grade. He’s the first chair trombone in the top band at his school (so, yes, he beat out some 8th graders! Woo-hoo!). On Friday (2/22/13 – the night before I ran the Cowtown 10K), they had a concert at Byron Nelson High School to practice for their upcoming UIL contest. I don’t have all of the songs on video (I know, I know…can I claim brain fart for a song and a half?) and I didn’t video the sight-reading portion (which was also really cool and sounded great, and made me REALLY glad I’m not a band director), but you’ll get an idea of how awesome they are from this clip. Enjoy!

The actual UIL contest is March 5. Expect an update when we get results!

Grampires and Other Toddler-isms

Published by under Samuel Lewis

Sam gets socks, shoes, and “gloves” on for baseball.

Sam is at that wonderful age where you just want to follow him around with pen and paper – or, if you’re more with the times, a videocamera – to capture all the fun things he says. For your reading enjoyment, here are some recent giggle-inducing lines. (Some are repeats from FB – sorry)

Sam (singing songs before bed): “W, X, Y and Z. Now I know my A-Me-C’s, next time won’t you sing with Mommeeeee.”

Sam: Dere are TWO baseball players in dis house: Sam and Lily
(Sam swings the bat) Lily hit a home run!

Sam: We go to Bear’s scwimmage today?
Me: Yes, after nap we’ll go to Bear’s scrimmage.
Sam: Dey have a catcher there? And a Grampire?
Me (giggling): Yes, there will be someone playing catcher, but I don’t know if they’ll have an umpire, since it’s a scrimmage, not a real game.
Sam: Dey WILL have a grampire there.

Sam (showing me his blue monster truck): Dis Ike’s twuck. (Pointing to the passenger side) Dat’s Gidget right dere.

Sam: Mommy, my baby is seeping, pease don’t step on him.
Me: Okay, I won’t step on him, but maybe he shouldn’t be sleeping in the middle of the kitchen floor?
Sam: But he’s SEEPING. Can’t move him, Mommy.
(Have I mentioned he’s a genius?)

Sam: Mommy? Is dis a ca-booster seat?
Me: Yes, yes it is.

Bryan: What are you doing Sam? Are you cooking?
Sam: Yes
Bryan: What are you cooking?
Sam (singing): Hot dog, hot dog, hot diggity dog.

Sam (grumpy): No! I’m Jingle the husky pup.
Me: Ok, Jingle the husky pup. Remember, Jingle ALWAYS does what he’s told.
Sam: oh.
Me: I think that one backfired on you.

Sam: Mommy, my anteaters are all better now.

Sam has also really been into reading lately, especially at bedtime. We almost always read stories at bedtime, but lately he’s wanted to read them to me, instead of the other way around. Some of the books he knows the story well enough to tell me what’s happening on each page, but most of the time he just makes up stories to go along with the pictures. Last night, every page started with “Once Upon a time…” Such a fun age!

Keller Elite League Champs!

Saturday was the league playoffs for Jacob’s basketball team. They went into the playoffs as the number 1 seed. They played two hard-fought games almost back-to-back (11 am and 1pm) and came out victorious!

Keller Elite 12U basketball, League Champs!

The boys with their first place trophies!

Don’t you just love how Jacob is the only one not smiling? Even his Dad smiled a little!

**Note, Caleb’s team has playoffs starting Thursday, with championship game on Saturday. They’re the #3 seed. I promise updates on his team this weekend, if not before.

2013 Cowtown 10K

Sorry it’s a little blurry, but here I am at the starting line!

I know you’re all sick of hearing me post about it, but I’ve got to get this race report down while it’s still somewhat fresh in my head. Bear with me here, please.

I didn’t officially sign up for the Cowtown 10k until the 19th…the race was on the 23rd. Now, I’d been thinking about doing the race for several weeks, so I had been working up the mileage without a set training plan. Because of that, I decided to just have some fun. I remembered the course being really pretty, taking us through some parts of Fort Worth that I rarely see.

Of course, this IS me we’re talking about, and “just have some fun” is easier said than done. I made the mistake of looking up my times from the 2011 Cowtown 10k that I did as part of my training for the Dallas Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon. Two years ago, I had a gun time of 1:06:24; a chip time of 1:04:59, and placed 771 out of 2045 female racers (1889 out of 3691 overall). Once I discovered this, and looked at what my last few “long” training runs had been, I got to thinking… (bad idea, I know). I came up with an A, B, and C goal for Saturday’s race.

  • A goal: a new PR, run the whole route
  • B goal: run the whole route, regardless of PR
  • C goal: finish not feeling like death

Making PJs and Breaking Sewing Machines

**Note: I do realize this post is quite outdated, and that several snippets were posted to Facebook. However, I have a few new projects in mind, so a recap now is timely, I think. Also? It’s my blog and I’ll rehash if I want to.**

My favorite set of pjs was a gift from my SIL. They’re pink satin pants and button-down shirt with white polka dots. I wear them a lot…like, every time they’re clean and it’s not 3-zillion degrees outside (they are long pants and long-sleeved, after all). Continue Reading »
