I was really excited about the symposium – the topics discussed were right up my alley: Being Your Own Advocate, Personal Finance, Breaking Through Middle Management, Maximizing Mentors, and Balancing “It All.”

It was going to be a crazy morning. The Symposium started at 8:30, which meant leaving my house by probably 7:15 (horrible traffic on I-35 these days, thankyouverymuch FW). Oh, but guess what? Today is THURSDAY. Thursday means that we’re already crazy in the morning because Bryan takes the big boys to school, and Caleb has to be at school by 7:45. That means Bryan and the boys leaving home no later than (you guessed it) 7:15. Typically, Thursday mornings are a sort of “divide and conquor” situation where Bryan handles the big boys and I get Sam and myself ready. BUT, I have a wonderful husband who was willing to make his morning even crazier by getting everyone to their respective schools so that I could get to the symposium on time.

Last night, I picked out my clothes, packed my bag, and set my alarm for much earlier than usual. Everyone went to bed early. I had just about finished getting ready (no, really, I only needed to get dressed) when Bryan brought Sam in…in just a diaper. The crib bedding and Sam’s 2 favorite lovies were piled in the laundry room. Sometime last night Sam had upchucked. It was all in his hair and everything. I. Never. Heard. A. Thing. I don’t know if it didn’t wake him up (how could it not?), or if it did and he cried out and I didn’t hear it (Ohmygosh, if this is the case, I MUST be the Worst. Mommy. Ever!).

Into the bath he went. He was happy enough, but not screaming for breakfast like he usually is. No fever, but he just didn’t fully seem himself. What’s today’s title again? Best Laid Plans? Yeah…no symposium for me after all. Daddy had really important meetings today that he could not miss, so Mommy stayed home with the little guy (who does seem to be on the mend, so far).

So, instead of learning how to be my own advocate, break through middle management, maximize mentors, or balance “it all” (honestly, I was really interested in the personal finance part, too, but it would have been the least likely to “stick”. . . I was an English major for a reason), I have done two loads of laundry (one of them twice) and a bleach cycle in the washing machine. I’ve also read books, colored, cuddled, and even sung and danced with my little man. And you know what? I wouldn’t change today at all. 🙂

Today I had hoped to post all amped up from all I’d learned at the Women in Leadership Symposium: Rising Above the Ordinary being hosted at TCU today.
