The newsletter said that if you want to participate in Splash Day, come to school in your swimsuit and bring a full change of clothes and towel (sunscreen is already up at school). Today is Tuesday, so Daddy asked me if Sam was going to do Splash Day. Sure! Why not? I showed Daddy where the swim diapers were, and the swim suit (it was still out from our first pool trip this season – see adorable photo at left), answered a zillion questions about how to get him ready (wait, isn’t Daddy the one who’s gotten kids ready for Splash Day before?), and then had to dash out the door to work.

I was nearly to downtown when my phone rang…

Daddy: (sounding rather annoyed) Does Sam have another swimsuit?

Me: Yessss…it’s upstairs in his closet – red plaid…why?

Daddy: (sounding REALLY annoyed) Because he just peed all out of the swim diaper, down his leg, and soaked his sock and shoe.

Me: (stifling a giggle) Uh-oh…I’m sorry.

Daddy: (clearly annoyed) Well, I’m not putting another swim diaper on him. That thing didn’t catch anything. Besides, he doesn’t need it. It’s just Splash Day. They’re not going swimming are they?

Me: Well, I don’t really know what they’ll do for Splash Day. This is his first one. And, keep in mind that Sam’s overnight diaper was dry this morning, as was the one you took off when you put the swim diaper on, so it was probably a REALLY big tee-tee…but I think you’re probably safe just going with a regular diaper.

Daddy: Okay. I’m going now – gotta change him and get to school.

By this point I was almost to work. I parked and headed into the office. As I always do, I pulled my phone out of my purse to silence it and set it on my desk. That’s when I noticed that I had a text message…

Bryan: No splash day until the 19th.

Received: 8:50 am

(feel free to giggle – I know I did!)

On Friday, Sam transitioned up to a new class, Pre-school 2 (I’m not sure what happened to Pre-School 1, but I think they split the class by age and numbers… mental note, ask about that…).
