Of Swim Diapers and School Supplies

Published by at 10:53 pm under Uncategorized

Today I had to go to Walmart. I needed ONE item that I couldn’t get at my local Kroger.

Sort of a necessity for a swimming playgroup.

Now, you might not know this about me, but I have a sickness. I LOVE school supplies. I always loved back-to-school shopping as a kid, and I still love it. Those pre-packaged school supply sets that some PTAs put together? They take all the fun out of back-to-school shopping (though I do understand the convenience factor). I, however, LOVE school supply shopping. I love the options. I could spend hours happily pondering which pens would be perfect for writing, what color folders should go with what subjects (blue for math, green for English/language arts), and just how many pencils DOES one need for math?

Naturally, this time of year it’s dangerous for me to go anywhere that sells school supplies. So where was it I had to go for those swim diapers? That’s right, Walmart. On a Saturday. During back-to-school time. This just has bad written all over it, right? Well, while I did go to the store for just the one item and I did come out with 15 instead of 1 (it was a trip to Wal-mart, after all), only TWO were school supplies.

I read recently that Sam is the perfect age to start scribbling with crayons so it was my duty as a parent to get him big, fat crayons, right?

I can't wait to see what masterpieces Sam comes up with!

And I allowed myself a treat, too.

How cool is this??

Yes, you read that right. Those are PENS made from PLASTIC BOTTLES. I’d have been doing the world a disservice by not supporting this type of recycling, right? You’re welcome, world.  (And, you’re welcome, honey, for the restraint I exercised.)
