Weekend fun
We’ve had several full weekends lately, and this one was no different – in fact, it started on Thursday evening. Jacob’s basketball team, the TIGERS, were the second seed in the 4th grade KYA basketball end of season tournament. With a strong 26-3 victory over the Horned Frogs, the Tigers advanced to the next round. Friday night they played the Bulls – the only team to beat them all season – and won 27-20. That meant another game on Saturday morning against Jacob’s old team, the Gators. The Gators had only lost one game during the season…to the TIGERS. 🙂 The Tigers didn’t disappoint, winning 12-9! That meant that the Tigers advanced to the FINALS to play the Panthers, the only undefeated team in the league.
Unfortunately, the championship game was at 2:00 on Saturday afternoon, which conflicted with one of my very best friend’s baby shower, which I was helping to host. Jacob is a champ, and totally understood why I couldn’t be at the game. He still had a huge cheering section, with Daddy, Caleb, Granny, Papi, Gerald (the boys’ stepdad’s dad), Uncle Brandon, and, of course, Mom and Ike. Our boys put up a valiant fight, coming back from an 11-point deficit for a final score of 21-18, Panthers. The boys took it well – they got really cool trophies for coming in 2nd place, and everyone agreed they had a great time and a lot of fun this season. Even Daddy got a trophy and a special “thank you” gift for helping coach during the season – a silver, black, and white net, with a bag of hershey’s hugs and kisses.
Sara’s baby shower went really well. The mommy-to-be was radiant, of course, and her guests definitely showered her with wonderful gifts. We all had a great time, and were quite charmed with Sara’s 6-year-old niece, Katie. She was adorable, telling us about her current favorite Wii game, “Barbie and the 3 Musketeers” and about how difficult (her word!) it was to get perfect attendance in school “because the flu is going around.” She also completely melted my heart when I watched her lovingly put her hands, and then her ear, to her Aunt Sara’s belly to feel and hear her baby cousin.Sunday was a full-on rainy day. No thunder or lightening theatrics, just steady, heavy rain. That meant no outdoor soccer for Caleb today. So, while Daddy went to the gym and Bubba was at a birthday party, Caleb and I had some time together. He watched the end of Ratatouille while I framed some family photos that we had done by Heather McFadden at HVPhotography, oh, back in NOVEMBER (yes, I’m a little behind) and watched Mr. Holland’s Opus. Caleb joined me a little over half-way through the Opus, and sat quietly with me, alternately watching the show and playing with his toys. After the movie, it was time for Dad to go get Bubba from the birthday party, for me to hang the pictures and for Caleb to get ready for indoor soccer. The good guys won again – 15-1!
All in all, I’d say it was a successful, if very busy, weekend!
