Baby D still cooking - 39 weeks, 3 days

Well, Baby D is still just a-cookin’ away (as you can see in the picture). To me, it sure looks like he’s sitting higher than in the picture from two weeks ago, but I think (HOPE) it’s an optical illusion. He definitely FEELS lower. There’s new pressure in places I didn’t feel pressure before; I feel like I”m waddling everywhere; and sitting with my legs in a “ladylike” position is rather impossible (and yes, I know it could just be that my thighs are just fatter right now, thankyouverymuch).

Everything went well this morning at the doctor’s office, but aside from being a little more effaced, not really any other progress. Dr. Holmes did still think we’re moving in the right direction, though. He said “if” this time when talking about my next appointment, which is new. As in: “IF you make it to your next appointment, since you’ll be a few days past due, we’ll talk about setting an induction date.” But, he also said that even once a date to induce has been set, most Mommies still go into labor on their own before then, which is preferable. We also talked about his philosophy on epidurals and when is a good time to get one. I won’t go into detail, but suffice it to say we agree on that topic!

Baby’s heartbeat was still good and strong, and he’s still movin’ and shakin’ in there, so all is good. In fact, last night, he made sure to “show” his butt to Daddy. Bryan had his hands on the belly, feeling the baby move all around, and then he said, “why is it so hard right there; is that a contraction?” (He was feeling a spot in the upper left area of my belly.) I said, “No, that’s not a contraction – that’s his butt sticking out for you.” He got a big kick out of that and started tickling that area, singing, “naked butt, naked butt, naked butt!” That got me laughing so hard I was soon running to the potty – ahhh, the joys of third trimester pregnancy!

I’ll be sure to keep everyone updated on how things go. It’s race weekend at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend, so traffic will be horrible on 35 – our main route to the hospital…anyone placing any bets?
