Pee-wee Cup
Caleb is playing spring t-ball again this year (second season – next year we move up to coach-pitch!), and he decided that THIS season, he wanted to wear a cup, like the big boys do. So, he and Mom made a trip to Academy and picked up a pee-wee cup. He’s VERY proud of this cup and told us, “It’s a PEE-WEE CUP!” (It’s also bright yellow, and apparently Caleb was disappointed he couldn’t get red or blue, but that’s beside the point.) He decided he wanted to wear it to t-ball practice today, but it was still in the packaging. So, I suggested he take it upstairs to have Dad help him open it up and get it on right. After a brief explanation of how the cup and brief worked, Caleb went into the bathroom to try putting it on himself. When he came out, this is what I overheard:
B: Does it pinch anywhere?
C: No.
B: Is it covering everything?
C: Yes.
B: Does that hurt? (I assume at this point he did a “cup check”)
C: No.
B: Does it move around on you when you walk or move?
C: No. (he’s a kid of few words lately, can you tell?)
B: Okay, I think you’ve got ’em covered, then!
There then followed a brief discussion on what to do if he notices the cup moving around or starting to pinch during a game, but I couldn’t hear all of it.
Ahhh – the sports life with boys. đŸ™‚
Just wait until they compare cup sizes. Those are some great conversations!
Caleb actually came out of the bathroom doing his own cup check…I heard “whack whack whack” several times as he walked into the game room to have me check it out.
As for what to do if he didn’t like wearing it, it was simply to go over to his bat bag (behind the backstop) and reach in and pull it out (the cup, that is) and put it into his bag.
Oh, I’m sure. When Caleb was so proud of his new cup, Jacob did have to “remind” me later that Caleb’s was a “pee-wee” cup…of course, we just had to buy Jacob a new, larger one for this baseball season, so it’s already begun, I think…
