Double Digits

Published by at 12:15 pm under Jacob Earl

Thanks, Scott, for this great shot of J. blowing out the candles!

Jacob blows out the candles on the baseball themed cake at Grandma Ann and Grandpa Reggie's house.

Okay, so this post is a tad late, but as of  July 20, we officially have a “double-digiter” in the house! Jacob turned 10. Now, being a summer baby myself, I understand the joy and pain of summer birthdays. Mid-summer birthdays can be a bummer because your friends are often out of town on their own summer vacations, and you  never get to celebrate in school, with Mom or Dad bringing the class cupcakes (okay, so eventually one does outgrow that wish) or hearing your name on the morning announcements (if schools even still do that anymore). On the other hand, summer birthdays often get multiple birthday parties – one with friends, and at least one with family. (I often got 3 because family lived so far apart.) Jacob and Caleb usually get at least two parties – one with Daddy and me and the Dallas family, and one with Mom and Ike. This year, Jacob also got to celebrate in League City with my side of the family.

Jacob at 5, cute as can be!

I can’t believe how fast time flies. When I met Jacob, he was just 5, and he was this adorable little boy who had the sweetest smile and gave fantastic hugs. Now, he’s really becoming a stand-up young man. He’s so handsome, helpful, kind to everyone (well, with the rare exceptions of “big brother-ness” to Caleb, of course). He’s smart as a whip, and in a rare combination, he’s also very intuitive. He can just tell when someone needs some extra love and hugs. And those hugs, which are still fantastic, can make even the worst day brighter.

Oh, and have I mentioned he's an excellent baseball player, too?

Jacob, I’m very, very proud of all that you do, and I love you so much. Thank you for making my life so much richer, and for letting me be a big part of your life. I simply can’t imagine my life without you in it!
