Valentine’s Day Goodies

Sam’s class is having an actual Valentine’s Day party this year, complete with exchanging valentines and decorated boxes and everything.

Clearly, a 2.5 year old can’t do a TON to help make his valentine box, but I wanted him to feel like he could help. So today, after basketball games, Sam, Granny, and I went to Target. Sam got some blue toddler safety scissors and we picked out a box of Valentine’s Day cards for his classmates (surprisingly, 3-D puppies and kitties won out over Cars, MLB and NBA themes) and we got some stickers and other goodies suitable for decorating a Valentine’s Day box. I also decided to pick up a few things to make an adorable Pinterest project I’d been thinking about. (If you’re not on Pinterest, you should be; it’s highly addictive. Also? Here’s the original link from Polkadots and Puppies–credit where credit is due, folks.)

Supplies: mini bubbles, cellophane bags, “Blowing Kisses” labels (4 labels/page), Packages of Hershey’s Kisses.

You know you’ll want to visit her site more often after this; let me make it easier for you!

Because I have anal retentive tendencies multiple children, I’m big into making sure each recipient of gifts like this (gelt at Hanukkah, cake balls at Christmas, etc.) gets EXACTLY the same amount of stuff. I opened up the Hershey’s Kisses and counted them. In case you’re wondering, there were 69 regular kisses and 61 caramel kisses. I did the math and got that each bag could have 5 kisses in it.

I know it’s still 2 weeks away, but I was excited to get started. And hey, I’m a working Momma; if I’m going to do cute, crafty things I have to work when the momentum is going strong. . . and the kids are asleep or otherwise occupied. So, tonight I got started and did the first third.

Aren’t they TOTALLY adorable?

Initially I intended to do this as Sam’s gift to his classmates, but then decided they’d make better teacher gifts. (Plus, I didn’t want to be the Mom everyone got mad at for distributing bubbles and candy to a room full of 2-3 year olds.) And no, Sam doesn’t have 24 teachers, so the extras will be going with me to work. (Sorry if any work folks are reading this and got their surprise ruined.)

8 gifts down, 12 to go, plus one decorated Valentine’s Day card box. I have 2 weeks. I got this. Right?
